Summer may be over, but the fun never ends in the Chicago area! There are plenty of fall festivals and activities to enjoy during the second half of the month of September, so we’re here to fill you in on when, what and where for each one. Get out and enjoy this beautiful fall weather!
Chicago Area Events – September 2017
Oaktoberfest – Oak Park, Sept. 15-16: There are plenty of Oktoberfest events taking place this month, and this one is located in Oak Park for suburbanites! Enjoy music, craft beer, wine, pulled pork, corn on the cob, brats and more. Kids can enjoy a root beer garden!
Family Drop-In Activities – Chicago Botanic Garden, Sept. 16-17: Every weekend, the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe has free family drop-in activities! This weekend, head to the Regenstein Learning Campus from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to learn how plants grow, compost with worms, pollinate flowers and more.
Taco Fest – Southport Avenue, Chicago, Sept. 16-17: If you love tacos, this is the place to be this weekend! Try tacos from a dozen restaurants in the Chicago area and vote for your favorite! There will also be beer, live music, a kids’ area and more. A donation of $10 is your entry.
Chicago Gourmet – Millennium Park, Chicago, Sept. 22-24: Chicago Gourmet is a premium food and wine event in Millennium Park! Purchase tickets and enjoy food samples from 100 chefs, cooking demonstrations, beer and food pavilions, wine tastings and more.
Museum Day Live – Statewide, Sept. 23: There are 30 museums across the state of Illinois that are offering free tickets on Sept. 23 as part of Museum Day Live, a national event! Check out the list of participating museums and request tickets.
Goebbert’s Fall Festival, South Barrington, Sept. 23 – Oct. 31: It’s that time of year! Head to Goebbert’s for pumpkins to purchase, a petting zoo, giraffes, pig races, wagon rides, corn stalk maze, a pumpkin eating dinosaur and much more. Purchase donuts, cider and more in the gift shop.
Chicago Half Marathon – Lake Shore Drive, Sept. 24: This notorious race begins in Jackson Park and runs along Lake Shore Drive. There is also a 5K you can participate in. Sign up or watch from the sidelines for free! Note that Lake Shore Drive will be closed during race hours.
Oktoberfest Chicago, St. Alphonsus Church, Sept. 29 – Oct. 1: Enjoy beer, brats, music, arts and crafts and more at Oktoberfest Chicago, an annual event! Craft beer tastings will take place Friday and Saturday, a Kids’ Fest will take place Saturday and Sunday, and admission is free Sunday!
