You might have heard the term ‘MLS’ (Multiple Listing Service) before. A local MLS is essentially a database of listings that are listed by all member REALTORS® in a particular area. The major MLS for the Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs is called the MLSNI. The structure of an MLS can be a little complicated, but the easy definition of the MLSNI is that any listing that’s listed by a REALTOR® in the greater Chicagoland area that belongs to the MLSNI (probably 99% of local REALTORS® do) is placed in this database and shared with all other REALTORS®. For example, eventhough you might select to work with an agent from StartingPoint Realty or Century 21, you’ll have access to listings from Baird & Warner, RE/MAX, Coldwell Banker, etc. Once you choose an agent, they’ll be able to set you up on an automatic email system where you can receive emailed listings on a daily basis. If you just want to look on your own, the two ways you can access the MLSNI is through REALTOR.com or through most agents’ websites. To get to our search page Click Here.
