Nov. 23: Arlington Heights Tree Lighting Celebration, 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Take in the sights with trolley rides through downtown. See the ice carving demonstration at Harmony Park, and enjoy live entertainment at North School Park. See website for full schedule.

Nov. 23: Vintage Holidays, Long Grove. Four consecutive weekends of festivities begin Nov. 23! Free horse-drawn carriage rides, live carolers, and appearances by Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The historic downtown will be aglow with holiday lights, and the cobblestone walkways will be lined with luminaries. Explore unique shops and restaurants. Details at village website.

Nov. 23: Christkindlmarket, Naperville and Chicago. Naper Settlement is the new suburban home of this popular, open-air Germanic holiday market. Chicago location is in the Daley Plaza. Experience old-world shopping traditions, delicious food and live entertainment. Runs every weekend through Dec. 24.

Nov. 23: Holiday Trains, Chicago and suburbs. Holiday-themed train and trolley rides begin Nov. 23 around Chicagoland. Locations, dates of operation and fees vary. This list by Chicago Parent magazine has the rundown!

Nov. 23: Zoolights at Lincoln Park Zoo, through Jan 6. See millions of holiday lights, amazing ice carvings and much more! Too much too list – see the website for the event schedule and details!  

Nov. 30: Winter Wonderfest at Navy Pier, through Jan 6. Indoor family fun at its finest! Carnival rides, holiday activities, ice skating and more. Admission required; see website for details, parking, and FAQ’s.

Dec. 1: Jingle Paws, Schaumburg. 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Bring your dog and enjoy four-legged holiday fun! Activities include a treat hunt, agility course, photo with Santa and a costume contest. Dec. 1: Holiday Magic at Brookfield Zoo. More than a million-holiday lights, plus ice skating and the Holly Jolly Theater! All kinds of stuff going on through the holiday season – see the website for details and schedule!  

Dec.1: Christmas Around the World – Holidays of Light. The Museum of Science and Industry immerses you in culture and traditions from around the globe. A feast for the senses! Operates through January 6, 2019. See website to plan your visit!

Dec. 15-16: Randolph Street Holiday Market. Browse vintage collectibles and new merchandise from over 100 vendors. Eclectic variety! Admission required. Held indoors at 1341 W. Randolph Street, Chicago.
